Beginnings

Merle & Lou began long before it had a name...

It started with my parents, Louis and Marilyn, who quietly modeled what grounded leadership looks like in everyday life. They did not teach leadership through titles or lectures, but through presence, service, faith, and relationship. In our home, leadership was formed through responsibility, accountability, love, and a deep sense of purpose.

As children, we learned that leadership wasn’t about control or recognition. It was about showing up, caring for others, standing firm in your values, and returning to faith when life became difficult. That foundation stayed with me as I grew into leadership roles in organizations, communities, and higher education, and as I navigated seasons of change, challenge, and growth.

Merle & Lou was born from that legacy. What began as personal reflection, writing as a way to stay grounded, became a calling to create space for others to do the same. As a small, heart-led business, Merle & Lou exists to develop leaders from the inside out by strengthening the spiritual and moral foundation that sustains leadership over time.

This work is deeply personal, intentionally relational, and rooted in faith—not to preach, but to form. Just as my parents did, Merle & Lou seeks to develop leaders through purpose, commitment, and relationship . . . at work, at home, and in the world.
